About Swat Out Tyranny

Swat Out Tyranny came from an idea for a protest sign. I've always struggled with coming up with ideas for protest signs both due to being something of a perfectionist and finding a lot of slogans on protest signs to be trite. I didn't want to create something that made me feel "bleh."

I was looking at some preparations for various February 17, 2025 #50501 protests. I noticed quite a few protesters making signs that referred to DOGE. Knowing about how ol' Elon has a thing for the doge meme and taking my own interests into account, I finally got an idea.

I'm someone who has always loved cats to the point that I work with them and that they're a special interest of mine. Even though I find it silly, people like to see dogs and cats as being diametrically-opposed. I also recalled that cats have been used in other past political imagery, such as the IWW Sabo-Tabby and suffragette cats. I even called to mind how J.D. Vance made that disparaging remark towards cat ladies. I decided to take advantage of my interests, past imagery, and stereotyping and created an idea of my own: Virtue the Cat.

I designed Virtue on an old Samsung display tablet of mine. I liked the design of him so much that I thought he would look nice on some merchandise for others to purchase. Funnily enough, I still haven't found time to create that protest sign of mine featuring him, but I'll get to that someday soon.
